Merit Badges
*** NOTICE ***
BSA Four Rivers is in the process of re-registering ALL merit badge counselors. The new list of counselors has not be verified yet. If you had been a Merit Badge counselor and have NOT resubmitted a new application you are no longer a registered MB counselor!
**************
In order to clarify the Merit Badge (MB) process please refer to the following instructions:
1) For Merit Badge-centric events (Summer camp, Merit Badge Madness (MBM), or a Lock-in) the scout will sign up for MB's as part of the event registration process. Blue cards (used to track MB work) will be generated and provided for the event.
2) For one-off MB work (e.g., STEM weekend or working with a counselor inside or outside of the troop) the scout must get approval from the Scoutmaster/Assistance Scoutmasters before any work can be started. The SM/ASM will then give the blue card to the scout to give to their MB counselor.
This is critical for working on MB's with outside groups (e.g. STEM weekends). Scouts will not be able to earn any credit without the approved blue card.
3) If the scout is going to work a MB with a specific counselor rather than at a MB event, the scout needs to contact an approved MB counselor. The list of approved counselors for our troop's leaders will be attached once it is verified by BSA. Only a BSA approved MB counselor is authorized to approve and sign the MB blue cards.
4) All MB work is to be carried out under the guidance of the MB counselor. Scouts should not to ask to work on a MB then go off and perform the work without talking with the MB counselor. For group events guidance may be given for requirements (prerequisites) that are to be completed before the event.
5) Completed MB's are to be turned into the Advancement Chair (Dave Newell) for processing. The MB patch will be presented to the scout at the Court of Honor (CoH) following their processing.
6) Partial MB"s can also be turned into the Advancement Chair in order to record any completed requirements. Typically any partials from MB events are turned in until the scout can identify an approved counselor.
Any questions concerning progress for a MB should be directed to the MB counselor.
Any questions about MB counselors not listed for our troop or question about the MB process in general can be directed to the advancement chair.

Advancing to Star & Life

Advancing to Eagle
Life Scouts who are working on their Eagle rank are strongly encouraged to work with an Eagle Mentor to help guide them through the process. Within our troop Mr. Greg Weight is a trained Eagle Mentor who specializes in helping scouts with the project approval and project write-up process. Mr. Rick Wiles and Mr. David Newell are also trained mentors. However, it is up to each scout to choose their mentor.
The Troop's advancement chair (David Newell) will mentor the scout through the necessary BSA paperwork for the Eagle Board of Review (BoR).
